By the end of the lesson students will be able to improve their writing skills, use Past Simple and new vocabulary in written speech practically, write 3 paragraph essay in 45 minutes.

Warm-up and Objective Discussion

Objective discussion:

Teacher: Our main goal is to improve your writing skills, enrich your vocabulary, use past simple and develop your creativity by critical thinking as well. Why are those skills important which I mentioned above? What should you do in order to achieve your goals? Yes! You are absolutely right! You can use writing tips and techniques in order to write successful descriptive essay . As you see we also should pay attention on verb tense while writing our essays, right? What tense should we use? Yes, you are right! Past Simple! Because we are writing about our last Halloween.

Warm up:

Checking homework. Revision questions from previous lesson. Students read about US holidays including Halloween.

Pre- writing activities: As we all know, good writing is good thinking. Let`s think about Halloween. What do you imagine when you hear about this holiday? Teacher elicit answers from students and write them on the board using brainstorming:

• pre teach vocabulary related to Halloween.

• Question for discussion in open class:

1. What is Halloween?

2. What do you usually do during this holiday?

3. What did you do at the last Halloween?

4. Where and with whom did you celebrate?

1^st activity instruction: I order to write an essay you should pay attention on meaning first. To have successful essay you need organize your ideas and thought. First, just make an outline of your ideas, then you will put in order each of them. For example, first this , next this(teacher shows and do modeling)As you know you are going to write an essay about your last Halloween. In order to write beginning of the essay what should you write first? Right! That`s introduction! How can you begin introduction? (teacher writes one sentence related to introduction on the board as modeling). Use Past Simple, use +ed endings if you use regular verbs and past simple form if you use irregular verbs.

2^nd activity: After introduction what is next? Yes! Body of the essay! You are absolutely right! So, body describes whole event of your story. That`s why body of your essay is the most important part. Word choice and vocabulary use is also important in essay writing. Teacher writes some sentences on the board in order to model. Pay attention in choosing time expressions. For past Simple what kind of time expressions are suitable? Yes! We use yesterday, last year, last week, …..ago, after, etc

3^rd activity: By the end you will write conclusion of your essay. You should conclude your thoughts at the end and you can use transitions such as: finally, in conclusion, to sum up, etc. (Write some sentences on the board that can be example for story endings, transition words as well.) This can be modeling.

Teacher divides students into groups, mix weak and strong students. Gives task to each group shares roles for each students. Asks CCQs in order to check students` understanding of given instructions: So, what will you write first? After what comes next? Right! Uses scaffolding. Elicit possible answers from students. Write some past tense examples on the board

Independent Practice

After giving instruction teacher walks around the class in order to watch if students following instruction or if everything understandable for them. If they have any other questions teacher welcomes to ask any time.

Students write essay in their group by discussing and reviewing each other`s work. After they finish teacher collects their work and provide feedback next lesson. Besides providing feedbacks, teacher also highlights the forms and structure of some grammar mistakes in order to make more noticeable for her students with italics or just underline.

Formative assessment is used: Teacher used performance based assessment in order to see real produce of language of students. Here students wrote their own project by producing language.
