“The More We Are Together”

Good day, everyone! I’m glad to see you on our competition which is called “The more we are together”. It is for those who study English, who want to study English and for those who love English. We have seven teams on our competition. Each team will do different tasks. For each task you’ll receive points. The winner of our competition will be a team which will have more points than others. Let’s greet a jury of our competition:

1. So, let’s start. The first task for you is called “Greeting”. Give the name of your team and tell about yourselves. Your time limit is 5 minutes. Maximum for this task is 5 points.

Dear jury, can you tell us the result of the first task? Or do you need some time?

2. The second task for you is called “Rebus”. The task is very simple: do the rebuses. On the table you have papers for answers. Don’t forget to write the name of your team. On the screen you will see the rebus, try to guess the word and write it down on your answer’s paper. For each right answer you will receive one point. Maximum for this task is 7 points. Pay attention that for each picture you will have only one minute. Are you ready? Look at the screen.

While the jury checks your papers we’ll check up your answers.

3. Every Russian and English proverb has its own meaning. And you cannot simply to translate them. You should catch a meaning of them. So, the next task for you is to match given Russian and English proverbs. Pay attention that there is one extra English proverb. On your answer’s papers write the name of your team and the code: figure – letter, figure – letter… Maximum for this task is 10 points, one for each right answer. Are you ready? Start.

4. You have done a great work and it’s time to have a rest. It’s time to sing songs. And it’s for the forth task which is called “Guess and Sing”. Every team will receive the cards with the lyrics (words of song). Your task is very simple, to guess the song and sing it. If you can’t guess or don’t know what song it is, read the lyrics like a rap song. Maximum for this task is 5 points. Your time limit is 5 minutes.

Your time is up. It’s time to sing the songs. Who wants to be the pioneer?

5. The last task for today is called “Polyglot”. I think you know who it is. They say that if person study one foreign language it will be easy for him/her to study another one. I think some of you know quite a lot of phrases in different languages. And now we will check it up. Translate famous phrases from Latin, French, Italian and, of course, from English. Maximum for this task is 5 points.

a. Translate from English into Russian the phrase from the famous play by W. Shakespeare “To be or not to be”

b. Translate from Latin into Russian the words of Caesar (Roman Emperor) “Veni! Vidi! Vici!”

c. Translate from French into Russian the phrase “Cherchez la femme”.

d. Translate from Latin into Russian the phrase “Terra incognita”.

e. Translate from Italian into Russian the phrase “Finite la comedia”.

The jury scores your point for the last task and your total and we will check your answers.
