Ufa is a city in Russia, the capital and largest city of Bashkortostan. It is one of the million-plus cities in Russia, the ninth most populous city in the country, and the center of the Ufa Metropolitan Area .

It is located on the Ufa Peninsula, in the watershed of the Belaya (Agidel) and Ufa rivers.

It was founded in 1586 (or 1574).

Since 1922, Ufa has been the capital of Bashkortostan.

It is one of the largest economic, cultural and scientific centers of the Russian Federation.

The SCO Summit was held in Ufa in 2015.

Monument to Salavat Yulaev. It is the largest equestrian statue in Russia, cast from metal.

The National Museum of the Republic of Bashkortostan. It is one of the oldest museums in the country, established in 1864.

Bashkir State Opera and Ballet Theatre. The first national ballet, The Crane Song, was staged here.

The Cathedral of the Nativity of the Virgin. The largest and most important Orthodox cathedral in Ufa, it was consecrated in 1909.
