«Presentation. 4th grade. My Home»
My Home.
My House
- Charity begins at home, but should not end there.
- There is no place like home. East or West, home is best.
The English treat their home in a special way. They honor the traditions of their ancestors, honor the elderly and treat the family with special trepidation. Therefore, when an Englishman asks you where you live and what kind of apartment you have — it is not out of idle curiosity.
Such a question is asked sincerely, its purpose is to find "common ground" in the interlocutor — common values and interests.
In turn, you will never hear such questions from Americans — a completely different mentality.
Let’s define the type of structure.
The interlocutor may ask you what kind of house you live in.
Therefore, it is important to designate the type of building. For example, when describing an apartment building, you can say block of flats or apartments building. If you need to describe a detached house for one or more families, then you can use the following words:
- Mansion
- Detached house
- Semi-detached house
- Duplex
- Vacation house
- Cottage
What is the first floor for Americans and Britons?
There is a very interesting fact about this. Did you know that for the British, the counting of floors does not start from the first floor, as we do, but from the second? The lowest floor in the UK is called the ground floor. Therefore, there is often confusion when writing sentences and translating them. After all, in this case, the British first floor in our understanding should be called the second, second-third, third-fourth…
Brits sometimes ask each other questions like I wonder if you live in a house or in a flat? — "I wonder if you live in a house or apartment?". As for preferences, the British as a" family nest " often choose private homes, which are often located in two or even three levels. In such houses, there is also usually a basement-basement.
In the living room there can be "a wall-unit" (furniture wall), sofa (sofa) and arm-chairs (upholstered chairs), as well as table (large dining table) and chairs (chairs). Moving to another room-kitchen (kitchen), you will certainly see a kitchen stove - "a kitchen stove", a microwave oven — "a microwave oven" and kitchen cabinets - "kitchen cabinets". At the same time, the British prefer built-in kitchen furniture.
In private British homes, there are usually two or three bedrooms-bedrooms, in which there can be a single bed (single bed) or a double bed (double bed). The bathroom in America is called a toilet (restroom), while in the UK — bathroom. To control the temperature in the rooms, an air conditioner is used, a heater is needed for heating, and a vacuum — cleaner is used for cleaning the apartments.
- In addition, when describing a home, you can also use words and phrases such as:
- first floor (in the USA) or ground floor (in Great Britain);
- top floor;
- elevator (in the USA) or lift (in Great Britain);
- flight of stairs;
- electricity;
- central heating;
- downstairs;
- upstairs;
- steps.
A house is made with beams and walls,
my house — with love and dreams.
