A monument to the "peaceful atom»

Volgodonsk is a city with a developed nuclear power industry. It is not for nothing that it is called the city of nuclear scientists. One of its most recognizable symbols is set at the intersection of two avenues — Kurchatov and Stroiteley.

On a high pedestal — stylized orbits of elementary particles of the atom, entwined with vines with ripe bunches of berries. This non-standard combination reminds us that nuclear power is designed to serve peaceful purposes and not harm nature. In addition, the vines serve as a hint of the wine-making traditions of the city.

The monument also has a playful nickname-locals affectionately called it "Bagel with raisins".
