Imagine that you are doing a project on leisure activities most popular among senior citizens in Zetland. You have found some data on the subject – the results of the opinion polls (see the diagram below).

Comment on the data in the diagram and give your opinion on the subject of the project.

Sample answer

I am doing a project on leisure activities most popular with senior citizens of Zetland. I have found some data on the issue. The results of the opinion polls can be seen in the diagram below. I would like to comment on the information in the graph and give my opinion on the subject of the project.

There are five horizontal bar charts in the picture presenting different leisure activities from watching TV to playing video/computer games. 39% of the respondents enjoy watching TV which is the highest percentage. While only 4% of the senior citizens are keen on playing video/computer games.

It is also worth mentioning that reading is slightly lower than watching TV (35%). What is obvious from the diagram is that the number of the people doing gardening is 8% fewer than those spending time with friends and family (7% and 15% respectively).

In my opinion, the statistics in the diagram reveal an important problem. We can see that the elderly people are not competent enough to use computers. Thus I suggest organizing more free computer courses for senior users. I am sure it will lead to their new pleasant experience in the modern digital world.

In conclusion, I believe that the role of computers and modern gadgets is an inalienable part of young people’s life. All leisure activities such as reading, watching films, listening to music, shopping and chatting with friends are easy of access with the help of any high-tech device.
