35 Kilos of Hope
Author: Anna Gavalda
«35 Kilos of Hope» is a youth novel written by the famous French writer Anna Gavalda. This well-written book tells the story of Gregory - a young boy who showed no interest in studying and finally realized that being a master was his true calling.
The plot of the book is not dynamic, but it is built in such a way that it is difficult to break away from it. You will find a deep and life history of generations.
The main character tells in first person form about his feelings, experiences, fears and doubts. Every minute Gregory spends in school is torture. The only time he feels really happy is when he's messing around with tools. The parents were indignant, only the grandfather supported the boy. His Grandpa Leon understands and eventually persuades Gregory to stop blaming other people for his frustration and to apply to technical college. But to do this, Gregory has to take an exam. Finally, you can find out that he managed to achieve his goal.
The author shows readers that a person is able to change himself for the better if he has a goal and willpower, and most importantly, relatives who believe in him and support him in all things.
I think this book is worth reading, because it is an amazingly inspiring one.
Hi Tom,
I`ve just finished reading a youth novel called 35 Kilos of Hope by the famous French author Anna Gavalda, and I want to tell you about it. It’s about a boy named Gregory who really didn’t care about school at all. But eventually, he realizes that becoming a master craftsman is what he truly wants to do.
The story isn’t very fast-paced, but it’s written in such a way that it’s hard to put down. It also gives a deep look into the lives and experiences of different generations. Gregory tells the story himself, sharing his feelings, fears, and doubts. School is pure torture for him, and the only time he’s truly happy is when he’s working with tools. His parents don’t understand him and are upset, but his Grandpa Leon supports him all the way. He helps Gregory stop blaming others for his problems and encourages him to apply to a technical college. Of course, Gregory has to pass an exam first, and in the end, he manages to reach his goal.
What I really liked about the book is how it shows that people can change for the better if they have a goal, willpower, and, most importantly, family who believe in and support them.
I think you’d really enjoy this book because it’s truly inspiring. Let me know if you want me to lend it to you!
Take care,
Ann
